Letter — request for volunteers for redundancy
Dear Luke Shaw,
As you may be aware, the company has [specify business reasons for redundancy eg been experiencing poor sales for some time now. Our hopes that the market for our products would pick up have, so far, proved ill founded.]
It is with great regret, therefore, that we must now consider reducing the size of the workforce within the [specify department/factory/company]. It is therefore proposed to reduce the number of [specify job titles] by [insert number].
In so far as is possible, the company wishes to avoid having to impose compulsory redundancies in order to achieve this.
The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to invite all interested [specify job titles] to apply for voluntary severance on the following terms [as agreed with the [unions/employee representatives]]: [insert redundancy terms]. If there are insufficient volunteers for redundancy, we may have to consider making compulsory redundancies.06688 112233
Please let [me/insert name] know, in writing, no later than [insert date] if you are interested in applying for voluntary severance on these terms. We will then consider all the applications made and notify you of the outcome. We cannot guarantee that all applications for voluntary severance will be accepted and we reserve the right not to accept applications from employees we consider it is necessary to retain for the long term viability of the company.
For and on behalf of [insert name of company]
